Fire Alarms Can Save Your Life by Aydan Corkern
In most apartment buildings or factories that have a lot of people in them at all times, they will have very big fire alarm systems installed in their buildings to help them make sure that these people are able to get out of the building in the event of a fire. These systems are usually pretty loud when they go off, and some come with a signal that will go to the nearest fire station alerting them of this fire, and some will even be able to tell the firemen responding where the fire is located in the building.
They also have these kinds of systems in school buildings, and their bells are on the walls all over the school building so that the teachers and the students can all get to the nearest door to get out of the building. They will check these systems by having monthly drills to make sure that these systems are doing what they are supposed to be doing. If your company is going to have a drill of their system, they are supposed to notify you and the fire department ahead of time that they are going to do this test. If the company doesn't notify the fire department of this test, they will think that it is a real fire and call in all of the fire fighters off of their jobs only to find out that it's a drill.
This company will end up getting a large fine, which will cost them money for this much plus the time that they lost because the workers won't be able to return back to work until the fire department says they can. It is the same for any company or school or even a hospital, so it's important that they notify the proper officials. Some of these systems will have water sprinkler systems installed with them, and these systems would have to be checked out when there isn't anyone in the building because this water will end up everywhere and on all of the equipment so the place has to be shut down and the machines have to be off.
With these kinds of systems, after the tests have been run, they will need to have someone go into the plant to clean up the water so that when the people come in the next day to work, they won't slip on this standing water. If the plant is a meat plant that is cold, this standing water will become ice and be very dangerous.
